Interview With Renee King of A View To A Thrill
RENEE, please give my readers a background about yourself. What made you want to start aviewtoathrill.net?
I consider myself a travel enthusiast, but not an expert. The purpose for starting my website, A View To A Thrill was to share my passion and love for traveling with those who are just like I used to be. I truly believed that only ‘certain’ people could do this; that it was impossible for the regular guy or girl to jet around the world like the rich and famous. At some point, I realized that I needed to get out of my own way and make it happen for myself. It was a simple as that. I decided that I had just as much right as anyone else to see Paris, so it was up to me to make it happen.
In all of your travels, in your opinion what country has the best food? and the worst food?
It’s easier to say which country had the least palatable food and I would have to say the winner (loser?) would be the Czech Republic…I'm really not a goulash girl. The best? Italy without a doubt.
When you first started traveling, did your family support your decision?
I think my family is happy for me and enjoy listening to my travel tales so in that sense, they have been supportive. However, I think I am the only one who makes traveling a priority.
Did you always have a love of travel or did you develop your passion for traveling as you got older?
I think my love of travel began gradually from fourth grade on. I’d learned a lot in Geography class but never saw the atlas as anything more than a learning tool. It was not a matter of travel being out of the question. There were no questions because I had no thought of traveling to those places. The coursework was just a part of my educational curriculum, nothing more, nothing less.
What impact has aviewtoathrill.net had on your life?
It has opened my life up to so many new things, people and adventures. I have met so many well-traveled bloggers that I’m learning so much from. I feel honored to be in this position solely because of the avenues my travel blog have opened up for me.
What has been the least exciting destination you've traveled to?
That is a very easy one. Myrtle Beach, SC. Not. A. Fan.
What has been the most surprising destination you've been to? Meaning, you had a specific mindset about a certain destination but it was totally a different experience than you had imagined.
Strangely, I never travel with set expectations. Of course, I’ve done the research and I generally know what to expect when visiting the touristy areas, but once I’ve touched ground, I try to explore areas that are more frequented by the citizens and try to open myself to whatever experience comes my way.
If you had to decide which destination has been the most influential in your life, which destination would you chose?
Prague. Its beauty confounds and amazes me at the same time. It is truly the most beautiful city I have ever seen. I'm in awe of it, but not the food. lol
If you could travel with any celebrity for one week, who would you chose and why?
Samantha Brown. It’s probably cliché, but she would be a hoot to travel with not to mention the fact that I would get to learn all of the hidden gems within a city from her.
What advice would you give to a newbie traveler?
Believe in the possibilities. Be brave enough to blaze your own trail. Do not listen to the naysayers. Follow your heart and know that you have the power to create the life that you deserve. Trust that no one knows you better than yourself, so let that be your guide in all things.
In 10 years, do you see yourself still traveling or slowing down?
I will travel until the day I die or the money runs out…whichever comes first. It's in my blood and I would never give it up.
